I tend to work from photographs for my portraits and family scenes. Some of them are tiny black and white snaps from my mum's family collection from the 1950s and 60s. I'm often intrigued by the accidentally bad compositions of these, so different from the artfully crafted pictures we're used to people taking today. I enjoy the process of what happens in the space between what the picture shows and my interpretation of the image. I like a slightly unfinished look to work, as if it's still a little in progress. I love oils but tend to use acrylic paint for speed and drying.

I am available for portraits and other commissions, just get in touch.
